UserX is supporting our fluid engineering industry partner’s investigation of the potential for interactive Virtual Reality (VR) to enable the reading, interpreting, and manipulating of machine states and support maintenance training.
Our initial work will be to prototype the translation of a real-world, complex machine into a 3D functional and interactive model and a VR environment. This translation aims to achieve adequate detail and model quality to enable meaningful user/machine interactions.
The prototype immersive VR environment will facilitate onsite maintenance task training activities, involving multiple users (teachers and trainees) in different locations.
The VR environment will provide trainees with visual, audio, and haptic feedback, as well as memory assistance information.
Our objectives are to make machine monitoring and maintenance training more flexible, lower cost, and lower risk.
